Web Access to Application Audit

Application Audit is a tool that can now be accessed via the WEB through Compuware's WEB Suite. Once Application Audit 17.02.02 is installed on the mainframe and CES is installed, a WEB landing page with an Application Audit Icon is now active to access Application Audit functions that allow for the capture of user activity, the viewing of captured activity and the sending of that activity via XML to products like SPLUNK for analysis via its Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) support. Application Audit information can be routed to an IP address or sent to a SPLUNK SIEM engine for analysis and events. Application Audit also has the ability to send SIEM data via SMF records for use by tools that use SMF records as input.

Compuware Simple Installation for Mainframe Products

Compuware's Simple Installation fundamentally changes the way Compuware mainframe products are installed and configured. Simple Installation streamlines the process into logical task flows and checklists, as suggested through numerous customer feedback initiatives. Compuware delivers the next phase of Simple Installation with the introduction of PARMLIB-enabled solutions in Release 17.02 of our mainframe-based products.

The next phases of Simple Installation are planned and will provide more features to further reduce the time, resources, and effort needed to install and configure Compuware solutions across one or many LPAR instances.

CMSC PARMLIB Enablement

Each mainframe product now uses the Compuware Mainframe Services Controller (CMSC) PARMLIB facility, which gives many advantages over the previous customization methods. Some of these features include:

Similarity to the current IBM z/OS PARMLIB, which is readily intuitive and familiar to many z/OS software installers.

Simple, consistent method to configure human-readable parameters for Compuware products using a text editor.

Use of System Symbolics in PARMLIB members allows for maximum flexibility.

Easy deployment of installed software to other LPARs and sysplexes by simply copying the current PARMLIB file.

Migration to newer releases by simply copying the current PARMLIB file, thereby shortcutting or eliminating future repetitive and/or lengthy tasks (such as compiling or executing configuration dialogs).

Technical Notes

A Google Chrome security update prohibits viewing of WebHelp when the help is deployed locally from a file server (as opposed to a web server). Attempting to view locally deployed help displays a blank help window. Compuware suggests that online help be viewed using Internet Explorer. Alternatively, Chrome's security feature can be turned off by launching Chrome with the command line option:

allow-file-access-from-files.

This method should be used only when opening local web help that you trust.

Application Audit only supports (3270) LU2 data in VTAM.

Security for the Application Audit for WebSphere MQ product is now checked not only when the product is started, but also whenever a Restart command for a global recording request is issued. If security has changed for the request owner or rules have been changed, requests that ran before may no longer run.

Product Documentation

The installation package includes the following Application Audit documentation in electronic format:

  Release Notes in HTML format

The product manuals in PDF format, which may include a PDX index file and associated folder.

The Adobe PDF index file (PDX file)

View and print the PDF files with Adobe Reader version 6.0 or more current. Download a free copy of the reader from Adobe’s website, http://www.adobe.com.

Note: With a few minor exceptions, the provided PDF files comply with the requirements of section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

The PDX file allows you to quickly search all of the manuals in the documentation set at one time. Click the Application Audit PDF Index File link to launch Adobe Reader and load the file. See the Reader’s help for more information.

Note: In some environments, the link results in a blank browser page. Instead of using the link, start Adobe Reader and open the PDX file.
