Abend-AID and Abend-AID for CICS Enhancements
October 1, 2018
zAdviser Support in Abend-AID

Enhanced functionality collects Abend-AID usage data and provides records to Enterprise Common Components to upload for use and analysis by zAdviser. zAdviser can then measure quality, velocity, and efficiency of Mainframe development. Refer to the Enterprise Common Components Advanced Configuration Guide Release 17.2 for detailed instructions on how to enable the creation of zAdviser records.

COPE for IMS Integration

When an IMS application running in a COPE environment abnormally terminates, the Abend-AID batch product is invoked to provide a diagnosis of the error in the IMS diagnostic report. In addition, Abend-AID now provides the name of the COPE logical system (Lsys) that the user application was executing in when the error occurred.

April 3, 2018
New Load Module Column Added to the Abend-AID Directory

A new column for the Load Module name has been added to the Abend-AID Directory. This column is populated for new batch and CICS reports. For an existing report entry this field will contain blanks. Users can move this column from its right-most position in the display to any column position by using the ARRANGE command.

Abend-AID Easier Deployment of Product CLISTs

Abend-AID installers can optionally use the Compuware Mainframe Services Controller (CMSC) PARMLIB member DDSNnnnn to store product dataset names for generated CLISTs to be deployed to multiple LPARs without requiring editing for each system. Refer to the Enterprise Common Components Installation and Configuration Guide for more information.

January 4, 2018
Abend-AID Uses Topaz CES Synchronization

Abend-AID is now participating in Topaz CES Synchronization so that the Abend-AID settings are automatically set for each individual Topaz user and no longer require the individual user to perform an action to get the Abend-AID settings.

Improved Registration of the Abend-AID Viewer to CES

The process whereby the Abend-AID Viewer registers with CES has been changed to use the CMSC as an intermediary. This enhancement removes any dependencies on which started task needs to come up first and any issues should CES be subsequently restarted.

Batch Abend-AID Configuration Dialog Simplification

The Abend-AID configuration dialog panels have been simplified by moving the single remaining batch Abend-AID customization option, the JES2 only USERMOD, to the configuration panels. Emphasis has been added directing JES3 users to scroll past this screen.

Enhanced Installation and Configuration Documentation

The new Abend-AID Installation and Configuration Guide has been rewritten and simplified to focus on the actual tasks required to install, configure, and customize Abend-AID and Abend-AID for CICS. The new Abend-AID Advanced Configuration Guide contains reference information formerly included in the Abend-AID Installation and Customization Guide .

New Marbles and Product Templates

New marbles and product nameplates are being introduced for more consistency across the entire Compuware Product line.

October 2, 2017
Compuware PARMLIB Enhancement

Compuware has enhanced the Common PARMLIB processing controlled by the Compuware Mainframe Services Controller (CMSC), including centralized parameter validation. Additionally, some parameters were changed to reduce their complexity and make them easier to understand and configure. These changes have been incorporated into the six sample parameter members listed below in the Abend-AID installation sample library ( hlq .CTL). To effect these changes, Enterprise Common Components 17.02 is required with current maintenance applied.

June 28, 2017
Enhanced Abend-AID Sample Parameter Members

To simplify Abend-AID new installations, the parameters used to control the viewing server, BDCAS, and TDCAS that are stored as members in the Compuware Mainframe Services Controller (CMSC) Compuware PARMLIB have been consolidated into the following six members in the Abend-AID installation sample library ( hlq .CTL):

AAVW00

Contains the core viewing server parameters used to access the Abend-AID Viewer and the Abend-AID Web Browser Interface.

AAVWALL

Contains comprehensive viewing server parameters used to customize the viewing server.

AABD00

Contains the core Batch Dump Capture Address Space (BDCAS) parameters.

AABDALL

Contains comprehensive BDCAS parameters.

AATD00

Contains the core Transaction Dump Capture Address Space (TDCAS) parameters.

AATDALL

Contains comprehensive TDCAS parameters.

Enhanced Abend-AID Configuration Menu

The Configuration Menu of the Abend-AID Configuration and Customization Dialog 17.02 has been enhanced to simplify the Abend-AID Viewer option. Because Abend-AID Viewer configuration is required, this option has been modified as a heading, which installers no longer need to select. They can simply select the Abend-AID and/or Abend-AID for CICS option displayed under this heading.

April 3, 2017
Embedded Source Support

Abend-AID supports the new Embedded Source Support (ESS) feature that was introduced in Enterprise Common Components Release 17.02. If ESS was used when preprocessing or postprocessing your COBOL 5.1 and more current source, then Abend-AID automatically uses the ESS records at view time to provide source support instead of using DDIO files, provided that the PDSE containing the program object is available to the Abend-AID viewing server.

Large Terminal Sizes

The Abend-AID Viewer has been enhanced to support large terminal sizes up to 102x160 (102 rows by 160 columns).

Directory View Change

Available via the Site Defaults Options menu of the Abend-AID Viewer Customization Options facility, the Site User Profile screen has been enhanced with an additional value for the Logon Directory View option. Installers can specify A to bypass display of the Fault Summary (default) at logon and directly display instead the entire Abend-AID Directory for their site. The change takes effect at the next and subsequent sessions. Refer to the Abend-AID Advanced Configuration Guide for more information.

Messages in MVS/Quick-Ref ®

With Release 18.02, Abend-AID messages are now available in the Chicago-Soft, Ltd., files or databases supplied to their MVS/Quick-Ref® customers. Sites no longer need to download the messages from https://go.compuware.com .

go.compuware.com

In the Abend-AID product screens, references to FrontLine have been changed to https://go.compuware.com .

October 3, 2016
Support for IBM Authentication Methods

To provide a higher level of authentication assurance for IBM z/OS applications, Abend-AID, Abend-AID for CICS, and Abend-AID Fault Analytics now support the use of the following authentication methods:

IBM Password Phrase Authentication for z/OS

  IBM Multi-Factor Authentication for z/OS.

These enhancements require Enterprise Common Components PTF CXR110A.

Abend-AID and Abend-AID for CICS Distributed Viewing does not currently support these enhancements.

Note: See the Technical Notes section for instructions for enabling this authentication feature.

June 28, 2016
Abend-AID-Only Enhancements
Point-and-Shoot Support for PL/I Source Listings

Users can employ the point-and-shoot method to display information on a selected field in a PL/I source listing for a batch report. Users tab to the desired field and press the Enter key to display the field contents in a vertical-hexadecimal format. The field name and field type are also displayed.

SYSMDUMP processing without //ABNLTERM or //ABENDAID DD in JCL

Abend-AID now processes reports for jobs with the //SYSMDUMP DD without the requirement for additional Abend-AID DDs in the JCL.

Duplicate SNAP Dump Suppression

Duplicate SNAP dumps invoked by the same program within a defined time interval can now be suppressed in order to restrict resources used during SNAP dump capture.

Abend-AID and Abend-AID for CICS Enhancements

Abend-AID Fault Analytics Rules have been enhanced to include quicker display of rules, pagination, expansion to show rule content, and re-ordering.

Compuware Simple Installation for Mainframe Products

Compuware's Simple Installation fundamentally changes the way Compuware mainframe products are installed and configured. Simple installation streamlines the process into logical task flows and checklists, as suggested through numerous customer feedback initiatives. Compuware delivers the first phase of Simple Installation with the introduction of PARMLIB-enabled solutions in Release 17.02 of our mainframe products.

The next phases of Simple Installation are planned and will provide more features to further reduce the time, resources, and effort needed to install and configure Compuware solutions across one or many LPAR instances.

CMSC PARMLIB Enablement

Each mainframe product now uses Compuware Mainframe Services Controller (CMSC) PARMLIB facility, which gives many advantages over previous customization methods. Some of these features include:

Similarity to the current IBM z/OS PARMLIB, which is readily intuitive and familiar to many z/OS software installers.

Simple, consistent method to configure human readable parameters for Compuware products using a text editor.

Use of System Symbolics in PARMLIB members allows for maximum flexibility.

Easy deployment of installed software to other LPARs and sysplexes by simply copying the current PARMLIB file.

Migration to newer releases by simply copying the current PARMLIB file, thereby shortcutting or eliminating future repetitive and/or lengthy tasks (such as, compiling or executing configuration dialogs).

Abend-AID PARMLIB Enablement

The Abend-AID parameters used to control the viewing server, BDCAS, and TDCAS are now stored as members in the Compuware Mainframe Services Controller (CMSC) Common PARMLIB. The CMSC is an Enterprise Common Components facility, which is SMP/E-installed as part of the ECC Release 16.05 single-image installation. Refer to the Abend-AID and Enterprise Common Components installation guides for more information about the CMSC Common PARMLIB. Download the guides from the product documentation sites at https://go.compuware.com .

RACF PassTicket Support

With Topaz Workbench Release 17.02 and Enterprise Common Components Release 16.05 (PTF CXR041A), the Abend-AID Eclipse Release 17.02 plugin will support RACF PassTickets. RACF PassTickets are alternatives to using RACF passwords. They are commonly used to remove the need to send passwords across the network in clear text.

Enhanced Abend-AID Directory

The Abend-AID Directory has been enhanced with two additional columns to display the time and date of the most recent occurrence of duplicate dumps. If there are no duplicates, the time and date of the actual report is shown.

Software and Hardware Requirements

For the Abend-AID products’ software and hardware requirements, refer to the following installation documentation on the Compuware Support Center website at https://go.compuware.com .

Compuware Products End of Support Dates

Refer to the Compuware Product Currency Tables at https://frontline.compuware.com/apps/oscharts/zos.aspx for the associated End of Support dates.

Technical Notes

In order for Abend-AID to support the new IBM Password Phrase Authentication for z/OS and IBM Multi-Factor Authentication for z/OS enhancements, a new Abend-AID viewing server parameter member must be added to the Compuware Mainframe Services Controller (CMSC) Common PARMLIB. The CMSC is an Enterprise Common Components facility, which is SMP/E-installed as part of the ECC Release 16.05 or more current single-image installation. Refer to the Abend-AID and Enterprise Common Components installation guides for more information about the CMSC Common PARMLIB.

Specify YES for the EXTERNAL_SECURITY_PASSPHRASE Abend-AID viewing server parameter to use the higher level of authentication. If not specified, the default NO is used.

A Google Chrome security update prohibits viewing of WebHelp when the help is deployed locally from a file server (as opposed to a Web server). Attempting to view locally deployed help displays a blank help window. Compuware suggests that online help be viewed using Internet Explorer. Alternatively, Chrome's security feature can be turned off by launching Chrome with the command line option --allow-file-access-from-files. This method should only be used when opening local WebHelp that you trust.

If you are performing an upgrade installation of Abend-AID Fault Analytics, be sure to do the following in your installation environment before beginning the upgrade:

-- For z/OS UNIX, stop the CES started task.

-- For Linux, stop the CES daemon.

-- For Windows, stop the CES Service.

Abend-AID Fault Analytics and Compuware Enterprise Services must be at the exact same release level.

During a CES and Abend-AID Fault Analytics installation, the user's specified JDK must be 64-bit.

Known Issues

The ability to test Fault Analytics 17.02.01 Rules is not present for this release.

When installing CES on Windows, users may encounter an error referring to the Java VM. This is a problem with InstallAnywhere and Java 8. It can be resolved by removing the following entry from the Path variable:

C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath

The Path variable is accessed from:

Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings>Environment Variables>System Variables

If a user specifies a temporary directory smaller than that which is required for installation, a message may appear indicating that the evaluation period has expired. Reallocate space and restart the installation process.
